CODE OF CONDUCT

The Professional Standards Expected of All Members of the Britannia Business Association

Membership of the Britannia Business Association is a commitment to uphold the highest standards of fairness, professionalism, and integrity in British enterprise. This Code sets the behavioural expectations for all members and ensures the Association remains a trusted, neutral, and nationally credible institution.

Adherence to this Code is a condition of membership.

 

1. Professional Conduct & Integrity

Members must conduct themselves and their businesses with:

  • honesty, transparency, and good faith

  • courtesy, dignity, and respect toward colleagues, clients, and partners

  • reliability, punctuality, and professional accountability

  • discretion and confidentiality regarding Association matters

  • behaviour that reflects positively on the national reputation of the BBA

Members must not engage in conduct that is abusive, defamatory, discriminatory, or damaging to the Association’s standing.

 

2. Fairness, Dignity & Workplace Standards

Members must ensure their workplaces uphold:

  • dignity, respect, and equal treatment for all

  • environments free from harassment, intimidation, or inappropriate behaviour

  • clear, lawful, and fair employment practices

  • alignment with UK employment legislation, including the Equality Act and Employment Rights Act

Members are expected to address inappropriate conduct promptly and professionally.

 

3. Merit‑Based Hiring & Professional Standards

Members commit to:

  • hiring, promotion, and reward based strictly on merit, capability, and contribution

  • maintaining high standards of workmanship, service, and operational quality

  • avoiding arbitrary favouritism, nepotism, or unfair treatment

  • ensuring all employment practices align with UK law and ACAS guidance

The BBA promotes genuine meritocracy grounded in professionalism and fairness.

 

4. Ethical Business Practices

Members must:

  • provide honest, transparent value to customers and clients

  • comply fully with all relevant UK laws and regulations

  • avoid exploitative labour practices or misleading commercial behaviour

  • maintain accurate representations of their services, credentials, and qualifications

Members who meet the Association’s standards may be eligible for the Ethical Business Badge, subject to audit.

 

5. Collaboration, Referrals & Conflicts of Interest

Members must:

  • collaborate with fellow members in good faith

  • issue referrals only where quality and professionalism are known

  • declare and manage any conflicts of interest promptly

  • avoid predatory behaviour, client poaching, or unfair market undercutting

Trust is the foundation of the Association’s professional network.

 

6. Conduct at Events & Meetings

During all BBA events, meetings, and engagements, members must:

  • participate constructively and respectfully

  • follow established protocols and leadership direction

  • maintain a professional, welcoming, and non‑political environment

  • represent the Association with dignity and professionalism

 

7. Use of Association Branding

Members may use approved BBA insignias, including:

  • the Membership Badge

  • the Ethical Business Badge (where awarded)

Branding must:

  • be used accurately and without alteration

  • not imply endorsement of political causes or unrelated commercial products

  • be removed immediately if membership is suspended or terminated

Misuse of branding may result in disciplinary action.

 

8. Reporting Concerns & Misconduct

Concerns about member conduct may be reported to the Association. All reports will be handled:

  • confidentially

  • fairly

  • without retaliation

  • in accordance with national‑level oversight

The National Executive, with KC guidance where appropriate, may review serious matters.

 

9. Disciplinary Actions

Breaches of this Code may result in:

  • verbal or written warnings

  • suspension of membership privileges

  • removal of branding rights

  • termination of membership

The severity of action will reflect the seriousness of the breach.

 

10. Member Commitment

By joining the Britannia Business Association, each member agrees to:

  • uphold this Code

  • maintain high professional standards

  • treat others with fairness and dignity

  • operate in alignment with UK law

  • represent the Association with integrity

This Code protects the reputation of the BBA and strengthens trust across the national business community.
